Subaru engines are widely tested in experimental aircraft in the US and have been used for many years in aircraft such as the Vans RV, Rutan Varieze, Longeze, Velocity, Glasair among others. They are water-cooled 4-cylinder Boxer engines.
Our engines are EFI, Electronic Fuel Injection, with double ECU, duplicate primary sensors and double fuel pump. One spark plug and coil per cylinder, which has already been proven not to fail for thousands of hours.
One of the advantages, in addition to the low fuel consumption of an EFI engine, is that they do not have a Venturi tube in the intake, therefore there is no danger of icing, not requiring the hot air system to the carburetor. In addition, the air-fuel mixture is automatically corrected by the ECU when altitude varies.
